How to preserve the freshness of food

When deciding on the storage method, the packaging of foodstuffs purchased in stores and shopping centers contains instructions on whether individual foodstuffs should be stored at room temperature, cold or in a dark place. Light, oxygen, heat and humidity are all factors that lead to food spoilage. If stored properly, food will remain tasty, fresh and rich in nutrients for longer. Nowadays, it is unthinkable to have a household without a refrigerator, which is a great help in the daily use of food. However, if you do not pay attention to the composition of the food, the date of production and the shelf life, the refrigerator can become a source of infection that is dangerous to your health. Therefore, food should be stored as soon as possible after purchase in the appropriate space in the refrigerator (eg special compartments for fruits and vegetables), which will keep it fresh longer. Ready-made dishes should be covered to avoid drying out and transferring odors to other dishes and foods, as well as cross-contamination from food to food. The contents of opened cans should be moved to other containers because the inner layer of the cans is damaged when opened, and the contents change in quality. Cool cooked food first (cold water, ice) before placing it in the refrigerator. Thus, you save energy, prevent the creation of excessive air humidity in its interior, and reduce the possibility of reproduction of microorganisms. Some types of fruits and vegetables cannot stand together, so they should be stored separately. The reason is the formation of ethene gas during the ripening process of fruits and vegetables, which accelerates their spoilage, as well as the spoilage of other fruits and vegetables with which they are stored. Thus, for example, carrots will become bitter faster, cauliflower will dry out, herbs will wither and cucumber will turn yellow, if they are stored together with tomatoes (pomadoras). Some types of cabbage will turn yellow, and kiwi will soften, if they are together with apples. The same applies to bananas, which should be stored separately from other fruits, if you want to preserve their freshness.
